Myabuy Origins

Myabuy began as the brainchild of a (then) Johns Hopkins University undergrad, Joel Goslar, who was looking for a safe community of ethical business/service providers to make shopping for almost anything easier and doable with friends.

Through his rationale, honest business providers are easy to distinguish by their presence on Myabuy. An avid shopper even then, Joel saw the value of such a community when he observed how disreputable people and businesses target students (many of them new to the area) and other vulnerable individuals. He saw social networks engaging in similar, equally dishonest business practices that caused even more damage to targets. These experiences helped him see how valuable Myabuy could be to everyone.

With help from the most creative developers, graphic designers, and copywriters, Myabuy slowly came into fruition. Things did not always go as planned, but Joel persevered. After getting his degree, he re-dedicated himself to building Myabuy properly. Additions were made, designs updated, technologies refined, and layouts simplified.

The Myabuy social shopping network is a labor of love designed to be a safe haven from websites, social networks, and communities that encourage, tolerate, or willfully ignore dishonest businesses/users. Myabuy is a Delaware LLC and a member of Dun & Bradstreet.

Fun facts about the founder of Myabuy:

Joel (friends call him "Jo") is an avid fan of "investment grade collectibles" (a Myabuy category). Joel particularly enjoys collecting original pop art, hyperrealism paintings, rare watches, sports cards, comic books and Thai/Japanese artifacts.

Joel has spent significant time living in two different continents outside North America (Europe and Asia) and enjoys learning about new cultures.

He holds a Bachelors Degree from the Johns Hopkins University, and tries to stay actively involved in the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association despite not living in Baltimore anymore. If you decide to friend him on Myabuy, try not to talk about Cubs baseball and their long streak between World Series wins; Joel is a diehard Cubs fan!
